In Canada we don't have homosexuals

Via pogge, we learn it was by no inadvertent omission that the spanking-new Canadian citizenship guide for new immigrants released last Fall contains no references to the rights of GLBT Canadians. It was by order of Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Jason Kenney.

Never mind that "second-class citizen" stuff. After more than four years of the Harper administration, I've lost count of the number of classes of Canadian citizenship that have been created. There are brown-skinned Canadians, who can be exiled abroad at the whim of a Minister, or just because. There are aboriginal Canadians, for whom schooling is apparently less important than for Christian Canadians, who also get huge grants for their very own infrastructure projects. And then there are GLBT Canadians--into the memory hole with them.

"In Iran we don't have homosexuals," declared President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Remember how we all snickered at that?
